[Not that it changed the facts. They were both painfully aware of what this'd entail.]

[He slowly runs a free hand over his forehead and through his hair. Exhales once. If the last year has taught him anything it's that you need to stay calm even when presented with something like this.

Freaking out later. Planning now.]

I'm guessing they showed up on the midnight channel? Do we know who they are?

Yes. [...Souji's silence pierces the air for what feels like hours before he finally answers the other question.]

...It's Lucina-san.

[There's an equally long silence on this end when he hears her name. Yosuke utters a profanity under his breath and lets out another exhale, this one longer.

Of course anyone would know whom she was, but Yosuke was in 3-3. He'd seen a lot of the classroom bullying, because there was no other word for it, at this point. It had gone beyond teasing.]

She's been out two days.

[That's level, but quite stony. The next part, however, not so much. He sounds irritated.]

I knew they were pushing her too hard. They've been at this for weeks and they won't stop. Wouldn't stop. I should've... I don't know, tried harder. They sounded like they were giving it up but clearly that was just another damn act...

[Yeah. He's pretty irritated right now. He stops, pauses, takes another breath.]

Sorry, that's not helping. What... what was her shadow?

Don't worry about it. [He's got plenty to tell about his own share of frustration, once this was over.]

...Her shadow was a child hoping to change the world, waiting for someone that may not even be alive. [The rumor of him being a warmonger...that was most definitely made up. It had to be. Someone as upstanding as Lucina couldn't have possibly had a father like that, especially if they gave her that moral compass in the first place. And if he was a soldier -- truths can be twisted into something wicked, after all -- then surely he fought for peace, not to slaughter the innocent.] "No matter what happens, you'll come back safe." "No one will go hungry." "No child will be alone to cry."

[With each thing he quotes the Shadow saying, he grows that little bit wearier. Lucina was alone, and no one even bothered to extend a hand to her without tossing some backhanded insult in her face.]

... her parents? [He's heard those rumours, about her parents having passed, but hadn't but much stock into it. But it would make sense, if that was what her shadow was latching onto.

A pause.]

You think it was the time she was happiest? Or maybe, for that last one, eh... because she hasn't even gotten that for herself?

[He made a noise of affirmation. It was the first thing that came to mind that wasn't how she was treated terribly.]

It might be both. She might have been happy while they were still alive...but never found the chance to mourn.

[Or, perhaps, she has that chance -- and she just isn't taking it.]

Or if she did, that might be exactly why. She was alone.

[It's a good thing tomorrow is a Saturday.]

We should try to find Ted as soon as possible. Try to arrange things... I have the morning shift on Sunday, but I can try ringing some of the others, see if they can make it.

[And that the long stretch of rain that signalled their last chance was far, far away.] Mm. I'll take care of Teddie...you focus on getting everyone you can together.

[A pause.] ...Thanks for standing up for her, by the way.

[Just like old times. Fortunately, after tonight it seems like it's going to be clear. Trust the Inaba weather people, they always know.]

Rise and Naoto might be harder. [Because Naoto is usually busy with detective work, and Rise would have to come back from... well, wherever she is. But they need her, let's face it.] But I'll let them know it's urgent. As well as the others.

[There's a nervous sounding laugh crossed with a sigh.] You heard about that, huh? Though I'm not surprised. Just about everyone on the floor did.

[He's not actually aware you know her personally, either.]

[That's still freaky, for the record. :| ...Though it probably wouldn't be that much of a surprise if one Mariko Kusumi was amongst them...] Right.

[If they were face to face right now, Yosuke would be getting a thumbs up of approval from his friend.] News travels fast, especially in a small place like this.

Yeah, I think we all have first hand experience in that. [But he sighs.] But, with Lucina, she... she's cute, sure, [even though he didn't take part in the Lucina challenege because he learnt from Yukiko it's really, really not appreciated] but that wasn't as bad as what it got to. When they have the nerve to start about her in front of her... no. I'm tired of how they always spin stuff and make everything go out of control.

[And this is Yosuke. He lets people walk all over him to be a peacekeeper, but when things start to get worse... then he steps up to it.]

So am I, for what that's worth. [But this wasn't the time to be mulling over that. They still had a couple of days to go.] Let's...talk about this later, though. It's a bad hour to be up.

[As Souji mentions it, Yosuke stifles a yawn. Aw man sleep. How I was with you minutes ago.] That might be a good idea. We can talk at lunch tomorrow.
