Milla Maxwell | Canon Mashup (ToX, Disgaea 4) | First Meeting

[Prinny Instructor Valvatorez found himself entering the realm of spirits once he stepped through the Dimensional Gate. This had been an odd request; usually the realm was dimensionally locked from demons entering in, but this was not a call for war, nor was it a pleasure trip.

The demon was here on business, in realm that was foreign to him. Fenrich had demanded to come along, but Valvatorez knew well enough that setting foot in this realm might be trouble if there were more than one of them coming. The last thing he needed was a conflict between the Netherworld and the realm beyond. Not when God was a pain in the ass enough as it was.

Still, this fellow no doubt looks out of place, though non-aggressive. He attempts to seek out anyone who might be able to help him in his plight and in his stay here.]

[The spirit realm is largely the same as Rieze Maxia. A mirror image, a place for the departed to gather their bearings before they took life anew. An echo of prior experiences. So Milla had learnt the last time she was here, devoid of identity, devoid of memories and self. Now, she was here by choice.

She was Maxwell. She had that privilege, that obligation to guide souls, before they were renewed, purified, and reborn.

It was Muzét that had alerted her to the stranger. Largely, those that lived in this realm, for what intervening time they did, had not regarded him. Had assumed he was like them, meant to be here, gaze falling on and past him. No, it was Muzét who had noticed in her observational role, and had sped off to the Hollowmont, to find Milla.

It was not long before Milla arrived, aided by the Four Great Spirits. On inspection, the stranger stood out to her. He was certainly not like the rest in the spirit realm version of Nia Khera. She descends from the path that leads to her shrine, stopping several metres away from him, making it very clear she does see him. Not a threat, nor a demand to leave. Just a simple, yes, I have noticed you.]

You do not belong here. Why have you come?

[He looks back, and quickly sizes up who addressed him, and gave her a nod in acknowledgement.]

My name is Valvatorez, and I am a Prinny Instructor from the Netherworld known as Hades. I have come here seeking answers. There are rumors floating about that some of the souls set to be brought here with the last Red Moon did not arrive.

I have come to see if that was true. Those souls have earned their right to reincarnation, so if they have not moved on, the matter is very grave.

[Milla listens. She listens to the Four, too, as they agree with his first statement. The latter ones, they are undecided for, falling into arguments of their own. At the moment they have no visible form, so it simply seems like Milla is listening to thin air, but she takes what they, and Valvatorez say, on board.]

I have heard of this Netherworld, though I am pressed to give you a satisfactory answer to those questions. I can't say they have, or that they haven't - it's the natural way of things for spirits to come and go, and whilst I oversee it I do not watch each and every one. Sometimes other things take precedence.

That said, it would require some investigation to answer it. If it is as you say, it cannot be overlooked... especially if the cycle is being disturbed by an outside force. That is troubling.

[Initially the vampire looks a little puzzled when the woman in front of him appeared to be listening to nothing at all. Or rather, listening to something he could not see or hear. ...But this was the realm of the spirits, and he was a demon with no direct link to spirits of any sort, so he could not be one to judge on that. So instead, he merely waited for her reply.

Still, he nods.]

So you are the one who oversees this realm? Ah, that is quite fortunate.

[It means he doesn't have to keep repeating the story.]

If there is an investigation to be done, I would offer my assistance on the matter. Many of the Prinnies' souls that supposedly did not make it here were pupils of mine. As their former instructor, I cannot simply sit idly by if their souls are in some sort of limbo.

Indeed. I am Maxwell, Lord of Spirits.

[It's a mantra she's used since birth. Or close enough, as it took time until the human form could speak, walk, and so forth. And after recent events, it was only more of the truth. She had taken the role carved for her, sticking true to her conviction.]

But Milla will suffice.

[To the latter, she nods.] I accept your assistance. That would beneficial for the both of us. We are likely to find an answer more quickly.

[Lord of Spirits? A very nice title indeed.]

It's a pleasure, though it could be under better circumstances.

To start, do you have any questions for me? I shall answer them as best as I am able. Our two realms have never had much contact before.

Hmm. [She'll take you up on that offer, then, Val.] What are Prinnies, exactly? How does the process usually work? [She has a basic idea, since, well, if they're supposed to end up here and are reborn from that - if they're in the Netherworld that's another line of thought - but she's never seen one for herself.]
