He didn't know for certain.
When she mentions that she knows it already, though...he shuts his eyes for a moment to think. It made things easier, that she had a clue of what the play entailed, but...there was a part of him that felt uncertain. Like something was amiss...that there was much to uncover about his friend -- more than he could have ever expected.
Or maybe she picked up the book herself recently, too...but that would've been just plain coincidence.
